Quick Overview

Agents can initiate a live chat with a visitor or vice versa. Once the live chat plugin is activated, click on “Live Chat” in the left menu navigation. When a visitor lands on your website, their details will be displayed in the live chat control panel. They can start a conversation by entering their details in the live chat box displayed on their screen and clicking “Start chat”. A notification will play in your live chat control panel. External/3rd Party Services

3CX Live Chat makes use of the external services listed below in order to add functionality to the plugin and enrich the user experience.

3CX Live chat activation api & chat server selector (HTTPS://WPLC.3CX.NET) (REQUIRED)

We use a server side generated unique identifier (GUID) in order to guarantee proper identification and secure communication between agents and visitors connected to same website. This is needed because a client side identifier could be spoofed. The only information sent with this API is your website URL, so your personal data is not sent to our servers. We only store website URLs and corresponding GUID. The same server also acts as a chat router that redirects chat sessions to our chat server/s hosted on Google Cloud & OVH. Gravatar (https://en.gravatar.com/) (Required)

Once installed and activated, a link should appear in the left navigation panel within your WP-ADMIN section. Click on the “Live Chat” link and follow the on screen instructions.

Does 3CX Live Chat connect to a third party server?

If you select to use 3CX live Chat Hosted, yes, it will connect to our own proprietary Live Chat Servers to ensure high speed chat delivery & our activation server for automatic license provisioning. Alternatively, if you choose to integrate with your 3CX phone system, it will be run on your PBX.

What are desktop notifications?

Desktop notifications are notifications that will appear on the bottom right of your screen when a new live chat is received. This feature is supported in all browsers except Microsoft Edge.

Can my visitors start a live chat without entering their name and email address?

Yes. This option is available on the live chat settings page.

How does 3CX Live Chat notify me of an incoming live chat?

You will be notified of a new live chat by means of email, audio and desktop notifications.

Can I see if I missed any live chats that I may not have answered in time?

Yes. To view the list of live chats you missed, go to ‘Live Chat’ -> ‘Chat History’

Troubleshooting

If you’re experiencing issues running 3CX Live Chat, please take note of the following:

  • Clear your browser cache & cookies.
  • Uninstall all old versions of the plugin and install the latest.

If the live chat box still does not appear on your website, please go through the following steps:

  • Ensure that no other plugins are causing JavaScript errors on your website. This could interfere with the execution of our plugin’s JavaScript.

Looks good and works well, some further customisation needed - e.g. when agents are offline, I simply want to say "We're offline, please message us via our contact form" (not force the user to message via 3CX)

No idea what is going over at 3xc but someone left the settings tab to be set to 'display: none;' and now no one can use the plugin

UPdate 10/9/20 - After latest update it still conflicts with WP Approve (http://en.wp.obenland.it/wp-approve-user/#utm_source=wordpress&utm_medium=plugin&utm_campaign=wp-approve-user) plugin, disabling approval of WP users. Regrettably had to deactivate the chat. Update 6/9/20 - Conflicts with WP Approve plugin - stops admin from approving new user registrations. After installing this plugin it apparently went through all registered users so as to enable setting up of agents. It felt like some data collection was going on as wordpress became unresponsive. I hope there is no contact data harvesting going on as that would be serious. Agents should be set manually with distinct credentials specific to the plugin. Definitely avoid accessing registered wordpress user data as that sounds malicious. The plugin settings page would not show until it completed whatever operation it was performing. There was no message suggesting what was going on. After about an hour it became more responsive and the settings screen actually started working. It generates odd errors at times, saying some fields were not filled in correctly. Reloading the page and filling the same details again often works. It can be improved by making the tab vertically flush to screen edges when left or right placement are selected. Also some fonts are mismatched. For example when users are asked to leave a message Name, Email and Phone labels use a different font size. This looks unprofessional. There are certainly many features but it lacks some polish and can be sluggish.

This was a great plugin, I installed it several months ago and it was just perfect. 5-stars! Then they kept updating it to the point of us just having to uninstall it. Meanwhile, they kept making more changes and updates and as of this week it was functional again. But with another update today, we had to completely shut it off. It doesn't work at all. We can't chat with anyone, which I'm sure is frustrating on our customer's end too when they are sending us questions. So unless you have unlimited free time to mess with this, don't been bother!!!!
